When to use SiteCheck, Mortise, and SignalWatch together

SiteCheck lists current defects. Mortise alerts on new broken links. SignalWatch watches page text, downtime, and certificates. Most serious sites use two or three.

Litework's website tools are separate products on purpose. Use SiteCheck (opens in a new tab) for a punch list, Mortise (opens in a new tab) for link regressions after a baseline, and SignalWatch (opens in a new tab) for important public URLs whose wording, uptime, or certificate you care about. There is no bundle. Start on free plans and add the next tool when the next question appears.

One question each

| Question | Tool | |----------|------| | What is wrong on this crawl right now? | SiteCheck | | Did a link that used to work newly return 404 or 410? | Mortise | | Did this page's text change, go down, or is its certificate near expiry? | SignalWatch |

Longer splits: website inspection vs new-break alerts and website change monitoring vs broken-link monitoring.

Typical stacks

Solo freelancers / small brochure site

  1. SiteCheck free before launch or once a quarter.
  2. Mortise free on the one site after cleanup.
  3. SignalWatch free on pricing or contact if those pages matter.

Agency retainer

  1. SiteCheck Starter or Pro for scheduled reports (and Agency if you need client-ready exports).
  2. Mortise Pro for email/webhook on new breaks across client sites you verify.
  3. SignalWatch on each client's pricing or legal URLs you are paid to notice.

SaaS / operator

  1. SignalWatch on competitor pricing, vendor status/docs, and your own critical pages (Pro or Business as the list grows).
  2. Mortise on the marketing site and docs site after migrations.
  3. SiteCheck before major launches and on a weekly/daily schedule if you want the full defect email.

Free plan snapshot

  • SiteCheck: one-off, 25 pages, no account, no card. Paid from $9/month.
  • Mortise: 1 verified site, 200 pages, manual daily check, dashboard, no card. Pro $12/month or $79/year.
  • SignalWatch: 3 monitors every 15 minutes, no card. Pro $12/month or $79/year; Business $29/month or $199/year.

Order of operations for a site you own

  1. Inspect (SiteCheck) → fix.
  2. Baseline links (Mortise).
  3. Watch the few URLs whose copy would hurt (SignalWatch).

Launch day order is spelled out in website launch checklist. Quarterly refresh: how to run a quarterly website health check.

What not to expect

  • One login for all three. Separate sites, separate accounts.
  • SignalWatch to crawl every href. Mortise to diff paragraph text. SiteCheck to stay quiet about known 404s on every future email unless you move that job to Mortise.
