How to monitor a careers or job listing page

Hiring pages change without a press release. Watch the public careers URL, narrow to the listings block, and get a diff when roles appear or disappear.

Recruiters, founders, and competitors watch careers pages for signals: a sudden wave of engineering roles, a freeze that clears the board, a new city in the list. The page rarely has a useful feed. Monitor the public URL and read the diff.

When this is the right tool

  • A competitor's /careers or /jobs page.
  • A vendor or partner whose hiring hints at product direction.
  • Your own careers page, so a mistaken unpublish is visible.

Google Alerts on a company name is a different job — Google Alerts vs page change monitoring.

Setup

SignalWatch (opens in a new tab) compares visible text on a public HTTP(S) URL. Free: 3 monitors every 15 minutes, no card. Alerts: email, Slack, Discord, or signed webhook, with a unified diff.

  1. Prefer the listing index (all open roles) over a single job permalink that will 404 when filled.
  2. Open it logged out. Many boards are public; some require login — those are out of scope.
  3. CSS selector on the list of roles, not the whole site chrome.
  4. Expect noise if the page shows "posted 3 hours ago" relative times inside the selection — ignore-regex or tighten the selector to job titles only.
  5. Triage diffs: new title strings matter; a shuffled sort order with the same titles may not.

Limits

  • Greenhouse/Lever widgets sometimes load jobs only in JavaScript after fetch. If a private window shows an empty shell until scripts run, a simple HTML text monitor may see little. Check the URL before you rely on it; try a check before signup on SignalWatch.
  • This is not an applicant tracking system and not a full scrape of every requisition ID.

Checklist

  • Listing URL confirmed public.
  • Selector on the roles block.
  • Channel chosen for alerts.
  • Free plan for up to three companies; Pro ($12/month) when the watchlist grows.
